Volvo CE Unveils Next-Generation Excavators

Volvo CE Unveils Next-Generation Excavators

The new series brings 15% improved fuel efficiency, increased productivity, advanced safety features, and operator-focused upgrades to elevate performance across job sites.

Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) has unveiled a new line of excavators that offer significant improvements, designed to give customers a competitive edge. Key upgrades include up to 15% better fuel efficiency, increased productivity, improved safety, and a range of operator-friendly enhancements.

Major Updates in Volvo's Excavator Lineup This new series marks the most substantial update in Volvo’s excavator range in two decades. The initial launch covers several medium and large models for North America, such as the ECR145 short swing, EC210, EC230, EC370, EC400, and EC500 crawler excavators. More models are expected to follow in the coming months.

“Our new series reflects our dedication to meeting customer needs. Every design choice and innovation was made with them in mind,” said Scott Young, head of Region North America, Volvo CE. “These improvements will boost productivity, uptime, employee satisfaction, and overall success.”

Increased Productivity with Lower Fuel Consumption The new excavators feature an optimized electro-hydraulic system along with other advanced elements like a smart cooling system and engine speed regulation, which increases torque at lower rpm. These changes contribute to a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency over previous models.

The upgraded hydraulic system allows for smoother, more precise control of the boom, bucket, and other components. With 10 work modes, including power-specific and automatic ECO settings, operators can choose the best option for the task. Additional features like creep travel mode and boom shock reduction ensure tight control and minimize spillage.

“Our customers want increased productivity while cutting costs, and that’s what this new range delivers,” said Sejong Ko, product manager for large excavators at Volvo CE. “Fuel costs are a significant expense, and these fuel-efficient machines will help lower both costs and environmental impact.”

Volvo Smart View with Obstacle Detection Safety has been a major focus for this new series. The Volvo Smart View with Obstacle Detection system provides operators with 360-degree visibility around the machine. This technology combines cameras and radar to distinguish between objects and people, increasing site safety.

Additional lighting has been added to the cab, boom, and arm, making it easier to work in low-light conditions.

Operator Comfort and Usability Volvo has also improved the cab design, focusing on ease of use and operator comfort. The human-machine interface (HMI) has been upgraded, and features like Volvo Active Control for automating boom and bucket movement, as well as advanced electric control joysticks, make operations more efficient.

Other operator-focused upgrades include:

  • Redesigned seat
  • Better ventilation
  • Footrest support for slope work
  • Keyless engine start with multiple operator preference storage
  • Heated, larger side mirrors
  • Wireless phone charger
  • Built-in cooler/heater for food and drinks
  • Additional storage and sunscreens
  • Improved safety railings and steps
  • New DEF sight gauges and splash guard

The latest generation of the Co-Pilot in-cab tablet offers a larger, higher-resolution display for Dig Assist applications like on-board weighing and in-field design.

Reduced Maintenance The new Volvo excavators extend service intervals, offering up to a 50% increase in hydraulic oil life, with regular oil changes now needed every 3,000 hours and long-life hydraulic oil changes every 6,000 hours.

As with all Volvo excavators, these models come with the Volvo Lifetime Frame and Structure Warranty, covering the frame, boom, and arm for the entire ownership period. Volvo CE also provides service contracts and financing options for a complete customer experience.
